Configuration Files Location

Mac

GMail Account IMAP Configuration

Initial Setup

Tools -> Account Settings -> Account Actions -> Add Mail Account.

Update "Your name", "Email address", "Password".

The account is autodetected, and IMAP/SSL, SMPT/SSL is offered. The authentication is done with OAuth2, so a password window will pop up. I will need to grant access to "Mozilla Thunderbird Email"

Post-Configuration:

Click on the account -> Account Name: relevant and short account name.

Server Settings:

  • Check for new messages at startup
  • Check for new messages every 3 minutes
  • Allow immediate server notification when a new message arrives
  • When I delete a message, move it to Trash

Message Storage:

  • Clean up ("Expunge") Inbox on Exit
  • Empty Trash on Exit

Copies and Folders:

  • Place a copy in "Sent"
  • Bcc these email addresses: original-address
  • Unselect "Keep message archives", unless you want to use the feature. More about Message Archives.

Synchronization & Storage:

Message Synchronizing: Important Select "Keep messages for this account on this computer" then go to Advanced and select on a per folder basis: Inbox, Drafts and Send.

After First Connect

Configure the gmail IMAP account to only expose the important "labels". Details available here:
