VirtualBox Manager -> Click on the target VM -> Right click -> Settings -> Network -> Adapter 1
Attached to: Internal Network
Name: the internal network name. Choose one that makes sense from a functional point of view. Once more than one virtual network adapter is connected to the same internal network, the adapters are "wired" and they can communicate.

The interfaces are then configured after the installation of the guest OS, using guest OS-specific procedures.
